Upon completion of this course, students should understand the nature of airport components, the relationship between airport’s stakeholders, how to calculate the capacity of the different components of the airport system, the complex methodology for managing aircraft movements and passengers, airport facility management, and real cases and exercises of airport planning, design and operations will be applied within the context of Asia and international regulatory bodies. - Identify the various facilities on an airport’s airfield and the specifications and types of airport runways
- Understand an airport layout and runway orientation planning using wind rose analysis
- Identify an airport’s reference code
- Describe the various navigational aids that exist on airfields (e.g. airfield lighting, signage, and markings)
- Describe the infrastructure existing to increase the security of the airfield
- Understand an airport organization chart
- Understand how air traffic control affects airport management
- Identify the areas of concern with respect to safety inspection programs
- Understand the aircraft rescue and firefighting requirements for a given airport
- Discuss approaches to mitigating bird and wildlife hazards
- Understand the development of airport terminals from the early days of commercial aviation to present-day terminal design concepts
- Define the various security sensitive areas within and around airports
- Define the various types of airport planning studies and the different elements of the airport master plan

Qihua earned his first degree in Aviation (Operations) from RMIT University and completed his postgraduate studies in Aviation Management and M.B.A in the International Air Transport Association and University of Geneva respectively. He also holds a Commercial Pilot License issued by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority since 2002.Awards and Experience: Qihua Lin (“Q”) takes pride in igniting the passion of students in Aviation at the Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University – Asia where he has been an adjunct faculty member since 2015. Both work and education in Aviation has awarded him the opportunities to travel extensively from Australasia through Asia to Europe; which he hopes to capitalize to motivating his students. His current interests lies in the areas of Aviation and Cultures.Interests: Qihua enjoys meeting with people and all forms of travelling, even from the comfort of his 14-inches window (aka. notebook) in his spare time. One of his travel highlights include roaming 27 countries in Europe in a 100 days via the train. He is currently trying to lose a few pounds.
